VE Day

Good morning Class 1. Today is the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the day that World War 2 in Europe ended. On this day, 75 years ago, families celebrated with street parties where they shared food with their neighbours, sang songs and played games. This year marks the 75th anniversary and although we can't celebrate in the same way, we can still have fun in our own homes and gardens!

Did you manage to complete some of the activities yesterday in preparation for today? Don't forget to prepare some food from the Wartime Recipe Book for a lunchtime picnic if you can!

You could follow this VE Day timetable if you wish:

Friday 1st may

Good morning Class 1. I can't quite believe it's May already... Have you noticed the trees growing their new leaves and all of the different tree flowers and blossom? Have you seen or heard the baby lambs in the fields and other baby animals and birds recently? It's a wonderful time of the year to appreciate the nature all around us.

Exercise Challenge

If you're feeling energetic today after your Joe Wicks workout, I have an exercise challenge for you to try!
Today marks the start of National Walking Month. The challenge is to try and climb a mountain in a day! As we're all in lockdown, you can try it at home or on your daily walks!
All you need is a step tracker/pedometer. If you don't have one of those there are lots of apps to download onto your phones that monitor your steps. As long as its in your pocket or in your hand, it should work!

The Challenge: Try to climb one of these mountains today...

Roseberry Topping – 320m = 4,000steps
Sugarloaf – 596m = 11,000 steps
Skiddaw – 931m = 15,500 steps
Can you also find out where these mountains are in the UK?

After being active today, you may need some time to unwind and relax. Watch the video below from Cosmic Kids Yoga, for 5 different mindfulness exercises to try.
